Social Events and Special Services

Social Events

Spending time together is a great way of getting to know each other and building up our fellowship. Our social committee helps us arrange events all throught the year. In all our events and activities we seek to strengthen our fellowship and reach out to others. See the diary dates below for up to date information.

In the recent past we have enjoyed:

• Trafalgar Day Celebration with meal and games;

• Beetle Drives (involving a dice rather than vehicles!!!)

• Harvest Supper and auction;

• Ten pin bowling;

• Easter Bonnet craft morning;

• Queen's Birthday Celebration with meal and games;

• Shrove Tuesday Tatiepot and Trifle Supper followed by dancing.

Special Services

February - During National Marriage Week we include in the service a time of thanksgiving and rededication of marriage vows.

March - Mothering Sunday service.

July - Leavers' Service for those moving from the local primary schools to secondary school - a full church of pupils, parents and teachers!

July - Sunday Club Celebration with enthusiastic sketches for the congregation, followed by picnic and games in the church grounds.

November - a service for those who have been bereaved during the year.

December - Carols by Candlelight service following the nine lessons and carols format. On Christmas Eve the youth and children contribute to the nativity service. We also have a midnight communion service.

We recently commemorated those who lost their lives in the Lowca colliery disaster of 1946.

Nov 12 2008	Vacancy in See - public meeting An opportunity to make your views known about the appointment of the next Bishop of Carlisle. 7.30pm St. Cuthbert's Church Carlisle.

Nov 14 2008	Beetle Drive A great evening of fun and games for all the family. 7pm at the Church Hall. If you've never played before you don't know what you're missing! Please join us.

Dec 10 2008	Soup lunch December 10^th Soup lunch at St. Mark’s Methodist Church Moresby Parks followed by Carol Service at 1pm.

Dec 21 2008	Carols by Candlelight St. Bridget's at 6.30pm. A traditional service of readings and favourite carols for the whole family. Followed by refreshments and mince pies.

Dec 24 2008	Nativity Service St. Bridget's at 4.30pm. A navity play performed by the children of St. Bridget's Church. Followed by resfreshments and mince pies. Ideal for all ages.

Dec 24 2008	Midnight Communion St. Bridget's at 11.30pm. Join us as we celebrate the coming of Jesus - the reason for the season.

Dec 25 2008	Christmas Day service at St. Mark’s Christmas Day service at St. Mark’s Methodist Church Moresby Parks at 9.30am.

Dec 25 2008	Christmas Day All Age Service at St. Bridget's 10.45am followed by a short communion service. Bring the whole family for this celebration of Christmas (and bring your favourite present along!)

Jan 9 2009	Epiphany Party A bring and share supper to start the new year including dancing, games and lots of fun. Friday 9th January at 6.30pm at the Church Hall.

Jan 20 2009	Licensing of Rev'd Richard Pratt Licensing of Rev'd Richard Pratt as Archdeacon of West Cumberland. 7.30pm St. John's Church Hensingham. All welcome.

Feb 15 2009	Celebration of Marriage Sunday 15th February. During the morning service (10.45am) we pause to thank God for the gift of marriage and offer married couples the opportunity to renew their marriage vows.

Feb 24 2009	Shrove Tuesday Party Shrove Tuesday Party - 24th February 7.30pm at the Church Hall.

Feb 25 2009	Ash Wednesday 7.30pm at St. Bridget's. A special service of Holy Communion as we begin lent and look forward to Easter.

Mar 5 2009	Lent course Our joint Lent course with St. John's and St. Andrew's begins this evening and lasts for six weeks. Click on the link for details.
